Philippines’ Rice Output Expected to Increase in First Quarter of the Year

The country’s rice production is projected to reach 4.72 million metric tons in the first quarter of 2025, slightly higher than the 4.69 million metric tons recorded during the same period last year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) Standing Crops Survey.

This modest increase comes as the Department of Agriculture (DA) aims for a total rice output of 20.46 million metric tons for the year. In 2024, rice production fell short at just over 19 million metric tons, marking a 4.85% decline from the 20.06 million metric tons recorded in 2023.

The DA continues to implement various programs to boost rice production, including improved irrigation systems, seed distribution, and farmer support initiatives. The agency is also closely monitoring weather conditions and potential challenges posed by the dry season, which could impact harvest levels.

With the government’s ongoing efforts and favorable initial projections, the agriculture sector remains hopeful for a more stable and productive year for rice farmers.
