DOLE and Ilocos Norte Government Distribute ₱1.5M Livelihood Assistance to Farmers

As part of its initiative to support local farmers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the Ilocos Norte Provincial Government, has distributed ₱1.5 million in livelihood assistance to help sustain crop production amid the upcoming dry season.

This initiative aims to provide farmers with essential equipment and technology to maintain agricultural yields despite extreme heat conditions.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the dry season is expected to begin in the third week of March, with temperatures possibly reaching up to 39°C in Northern Luzon, particularly in urban areas. These extreme conditions pose a challenge to the agricultural sector, with potential water shortages and heat stress affecting crop productivity.

DOLE and the Ilocos Norte government remain committed to supporting farmers through various livelihood programs to ensure food security and economic stability for local communities in the province.
