The program aims to plant one million trees in areas surrounding PGPC’s existing and prospective geothermal steam fields.

Malinao, Albay – The Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC) has rolled out a landmark environmental program that aims to plant more than one million trees within the next five years, restoring over 1,200 hectares of forestlands across seven provinces in Luzon.

The reforestation initiative will cover ecologically critical areas near PGPC’s existing and prospective geothermal steam fields, including the foothills of Mt. Makiling in Batangas and Laguna, Mt. Daklan in Benguet, Mt. Malinao in Albay, Mt. Labo in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Quezon, as well as selected sites within the Bicol Natural Park.

“This re-greening program underscores PGPC’s dual commitment to clean energy and the environment,” said PGPC President Napoleon L. Saporsantos Jr. “It reflects our responsibility as environmental stewards while we continue developing geothermal energy that strengthens the country’s renewable energy portfolio.”

The initiative was launched with a ceremonial planting of 1,000 seedlings at PGPC’s geothermal reservation in Barangay Sugcad, Malinao, Albay. The event gathered representatives from national government agencies, local government units, civic and community organizations, alongside PGPC executives and employees.

PGPC, a pioneer in geothermal energy in Southeast Asia since 1979, currently operates the Tiwi geothermal field in Albay and the Mak-Ban field in Batangas and Laguna, with a combined capacity of up to 300 megawatts (MW). The company is actively expanding its footprint with exploration projects across Luzon, which are expected to deliver an additional 300 MW of renewable baseload power in the coming years.

With this initiative, PGPC not only reinforces its role in powering communities through clean energy but also in safeguarding natural ecosystems that future generations depend on.
