Philippine Football team beats Maldives 2-0 clean sheet

The Philippine Men’s National Football Team secured a 2-0 victory over Maldives on Tuesday in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. The team dominated possession in the first half at Maldives National Football Stadium against a home side still seeking a win in the qualifiers.

Jefferson Tabinas opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading in a corner kick—mirroring his goal against Tajikistan last June. Before halftime, Sandro Reyes doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a left-footed strike set up by Jarvey Gayoso.

Maldives pressed aggressively in the second half but failed to convert multiple chances. Bjorn Kristensen and Sebastian Rasmussen nearly extended the Philippines’ lead but narrowly missed before the final whistle.

The 2-0 win gives the Philippines three points, leveling them with Tajikistan at 13 points, both holding four wins and one draw. Tajikistan remains atop Group A due to goal difference following their 5-0 victory over Timor-Leste.

The Philippines will face Tajikistan next year in a crucial match on March 31, 2026.
