PDIC shares AI integration, digital transformation journey at UP Communication Forum

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation shared its digital transformation journey and artificial intelligence applications in communications and public awareness initiatives at the MAKI+Fiesta 2.0 event at the University of the Philippines Diliman in December.

PDIC Corporate Affairs Group Vice President Jose G. Villaret Jr. discussed the state deposit insurer’s early AI practices with students, educators, communication professionals, and media practitioners during the December 11 festival.

A panelist in the AI in Public and Development Communication breakout session, Villaret highlighted the use of AI and technology to ensure improved efficiency and responsiveness to PDIC’s various stakeholders, as well as in media monitoring to strengthen communication initiatives.

Villaret discussed the recent launch of POLA, or PDIC Online Assistant, the Corporation’s AI-driven chatbot that efficiently provides the public with key information about PDIC and its operations, including deposit insurance.

His presentation covered how PDIC maximizes AI and other digital tools for media content analysis in measuring the impact of its communications and public awareness initiatives and campaigns.

Villaret shared the Corporation’s journey to transform PDIC into a more agile, efficient, and innovative financial regulator, expected to translate to more efficient public service through streamlined processes, data-driven decision-making, and predictive analytics.

Now in its second year, MAKI+Fiesta is a collaboration between the UP System, Quezon City Government, PumaPodcast, FYT Media, and Probe Productions.

The media and communication festival explores the dynamic role of creativity and innovation in empowering individuals and communities.

This year’s festival invited speakers from PDIC, the Presidential Communications Office, the Philippine Information Agency, and the Quezon City Government.

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation was established June 22, 1963, by Republic Act 3591 to protect depositors and help maintain stability in the financial system.

PDIC is an attached agency to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and a member of the Financial Sector Forum, the Financial Stability Coordination Council, and the Financial Inclusion Steering Committee.

The presentation demonstrated how government agencies are integrating artificial intelligence technologies to improve public service delivery while maintaining accountability and transparency in operations.

AI-driven tools like POLA represent efforts to modernize government communication, providing faster, more accessible information to citizens while allowing staff to focus on complex inquiries requiring human judgment.

The Corporation’s digital transformation journey reflects broader government initiatives to leverage technology for enhanced efficiency and responsiveness to public needs in the financial sector. (PIA)
