More than 500 urban poor residents from Barangay 14 and nearby communities in Caloocan City attended a consultative assembly organized by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) on Tuesday.
The gathering allowed residents to raise concerns on livelihood, housing, access to government services and community development.
The assembly was held after Barangay 14 Chairman Efren Dela Cruz sought a dialogue between PCUP officials and members of the urban poor sector.
Among the issues raised was the need for sustainable livelihood assistance amid limited income opportunities and unstable employment.

PCUP Commissioner Reynaldo Galupo said the concerns aired during the consultation would be relayed to the appropriate government agencies.
“Our primary mandate is to serve as a link and facilitator,” Galupo said.
He added that consultations help ensure that government programs respond to the actual needs of urban poor communities.
Galupo also said the dialogue reinforced PCUP’s commitment to participatory governance and to bringing government services closer to the sector.
