PCSO pushes healthcare reach with billions in aid, nearly 1,300 patient transport vehicles

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) marked a milestone in public service as it convened the 2025 Charity Summit on Friday, bringing together more than 250 leaders from government, civic groups, NGOs, and beneficiary communities to celebrate collective progress and map out bigger goals for the years ahead.

With the theme “Serving More Through Greater Collaboration,” the summit highlighted how the agency has turned billions in revenue into life-saving programs, from free medicines and hospital support to modern medical equipment and patient transport vehicles that now connect underserved towns to urgent care.

PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles revealed that since 2022, the agency has released ₱7.97 billion in medical assistance, touching the lives of nearly one million patients nationwide. “These numbers are not just statistics — they are lives saved, families given hope, and communities empowered,” Robles said. “Every hospital we support, every patient we serve, and every vehicle we deploy brings us closer to a healthier, more compassionate Philippines.”

One of the agency’s flagship initiatives, the Medical Transport Vehicle Donation Program, has already delivered 1,297 Patient Transport Vehicles (PTVs) to local governments and is on track to reach its nationwide target of 1,724 units by the end of the year.

PCSO’s commitment also extends to specialized programs:

  • The Institutional Partnership Program has provided ₱68.28 million in support to 122 institutions caring for children, orphans, indigent patients, and persons with special needs since 2022.
  • Its Medical Equipment Donation Program has delivered ₱103 million worth of equipment to 14 hospitals, with nearly ₱22 million more in the first quarter of 2025 alone.

PCSO Chairperson, retired Judge Felix P. Reyes, underscored that collaboration is the backbone of lasting impact. “The true power of charity lies not in individual acts, but in the synergy of many working together — government, civil society, and the private sector. PCSO has long been a pillar of public service, and our strength grows when we listen and act as one,” he said.

Looking forward, PCSO pledged to further expand its reach by:

  • Equipping more hospitals with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities;
  • Deploying mobile dental clinic units to underserved areas;
  • And introducing sea-based patient transport vehicles to reach last-mile island communities.

These moves align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen and modernize the country’s healthcare system, ensuring that no community — no matter how remote — is left behind.

As the summit closed, Robles delivered a challenge to all partners present: “Collaboration makes our mission possible. Every program is not about numbers, but about lives and families touched. Together, we will serve more Filipinos — and serve them in greater and more meaningful ways.”
