PCSO marks 91 years of charity and service

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) celebrated its 91st anniversary on October 30, coinciding with the National Day of Charity, reaffirming its mission to uplift Filipino lives through compassion, service, and integrity.

“PCSO has remained strong for 91 years because of our people—their dedication, integrity, and heart for service,” said General Manager Melquiades Robles. “Together, we will continue to be the strength behind a more compassionate future.”

With the theme “A Legacy of Service: The Strength Behind the Future,” the PCSO renewed its commitment to expanding access to medical and social assistance nationwide. The agency continues to evolve, driven by a workforce that upholds its long-standing motto, “Sa Bawat Taya, May Kawanggawa.”

As part of its month-long celebration, PCSO hosted the 2025 Charity Run at Ayala Triangle Gardens in partnership with RunRio, drawing over 4,000 runners from both public and private sectors. GM Robles, who joined the 5K race, lauded the event’s turnout: “Every stride brings hope.”

Earlier, a Thanksgiving Mass and Service Awards ceremony was held at Foro de Intramuros to honor employees with 10 to 45 years of service. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in a video message, praised PCSO’s unwavering contribution to nation-building and its role in aiding communities in times of crisis. Partner agencies like the MMDA, LRTA, OCD, and Philippine Coast Guard were recognized for their collaboration during calamities such as Typhoon Opong and the Cebu earthquake.

PCSO’s commitment to service is backed by strong financial performance, with revenues climbing to P62.3 billion in 2024—surpassing pre-pandemic levels. This enabled broader support programs, including a record distribution of 1,540 patient transport vehicles to LGUs nationwide. The agency targets to deploy 1,724 ambulances this year, following a historic one-day distribution of 387 units last July.

Since 2022, PCSO has released P14.56 billion in medical aid to over 1.36 million patients, alongside donations of P125 million worth of medical equipment and P74.88 million to institutional partners. It has also distributed over 233,000 Charitimba food packs and more than 10,000 assistive devices to disaster victims.

In the last three years, PCSO remitted P18.7 billion to government agencies and allocated P4.2 billion to charity funds. Its efficiency and transparency have earned it multiple distinctions, including the “Most Improved GOCC” award after raising its GCG rating from 56% in 2021 to 92% in 2023, qualifying employees for a Performance-Based Bonus for the first time in nine years.

PCSO also achieved a 98.01 score in 2024 and received international recognitions such as the ARTA Silver Award, ISO 9001:2015 recertification, and WLA Level II Certification for Responsible Gaming. GM Robles’ election to the APLA Executive Committee in 2023 further solidified PCSO’s global standing, culminating in the successful hosting of the APLA Regional Conference with 240 delegates—the largest turnout in its history.

“We thank our employees, partners, and the Filipino public for their continued trust and support for our lotto products,” Robles said. “As we celebrate 91 years, we reaffirm our mission to bring hope, compassion, and lasting change to every Filipino.”
