The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) temporarily halted all sea trips within Iloilo province as rough waters caused by Tropical Storm Basyang affected the area, the agency said Wednesday.

In a late Tuesday advisory, CGS Iloilo cited Pagasa’s bulletin showing that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was in effect over several provinces, prompting the suspension of voyages until further notice.

Fisherfolk and coastal residents were advised to avoid venturing out to sea and to refrain from water-based activities while the storm persisted.

Acting CGS Iloilo commander Cdr. Jan J. Terazona said all response teams and equipment were on standby to address any emergencies.

Limited operations were allowed on the Iloilo-Guimaras route under strict safety guidelines, including reduced passenger loads and cargo limits.

The Coast Guard also urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to monitor water levels amid intermittent rains and strong winds.

Authorities said sea travel would resume only when conditions improved and further advisories were issued.
