Aloguinsan police in Cebu apprehend a 68-year-old man wanted for rape after nearly eight years on the run, the Philippine National Police said Wednesday.
The suspect, known by the alias “Mardo,” is arrested on February 2 in Barangay Angilan, Aloguinsan, under an alias warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court in Toledo City for charges of rape and sexual assault.
Authorities said he evaded capture for years by keeping a low profile and frequently changing his location.
PNP Chief Police Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. credited the arrest to focused monitoring and coordination under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations framework.
He stressed that arrest warrants remain enforceable regardless of how much time has passed.
The suspect is taken into police custody for booking and documentation and will be turned over to the court that issued the warrant.
The PNP said operations to locate and arrest wanted individuals will continue nationwide to strengthen public safety and confidence in law enforcement.
