The Philippine Coast Guard Taytay Sub-Station and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Taytay District Jail joined a mangrove planting activity in Sitio Minara, Barangay New Guinlo, Taytay, Palawan on Feb. 25.
The event was held under the Intensified Community Awareness and Response Enforcement program, which aims to strengthen cooperation between government agencies and local communities in managing coastal and marine resources.
A total of 70 mangrove propagules were planted along the shoreline to support coastal rehabilitation and reduce erosion.
The activity also sought to raise awareness of the role of mangroves in supporting marine ecosystems and providing natural protection against storm surges.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and local civic groups also participated, reflecting multi-sector involvement in environmental initiatives.
BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson Joefrie Anglo said the agency’s participation reflects its support for community programs beyond its core functions.
The PCG noted that protecting coastal areas is part of its broader responsibilities to safeguard marine environments and promote maritime safety.
