President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will need to study the proposed measures on anti-political dynasty and divorce before forming a position on these issues, according to a statement from Malacañang on Thursday.
This announcement follows the re-filing of bills prohibiting political dynasties and proposing absolute divorce in the 20th Congress.
When asked if Marcos would support these measures, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro indicated that his stance would depend on the provisions of the refiled bills.
Tignan po natin (It would be better if they would provide the full details of the bill because it is difficult now for the President to say yes or no. It would be better if they would give the full details because it might be beneficial for our country. Let’s see),” she told reporters.
Regarding the anti-political dynasty bill, Castro emphasized the need for balance, noting that Marcos is “for the country and for the leaders and officials who want to serve.”
As for the divorce proposal, Castro stated that Marcos has “no clear stance” yet, as he still needs to review the content of the bill. She mentioned that the proposal requires further study and could gain support if the provisions are deemed “good” and if the Church supports it.
“So, tingnan po natin at muli kung ano ang magiging maganda para sa taumbayan (let’s see what will happen and what will be good for the country),” Castro said.
But it would be better, and that is what the President wants, for us to strengthen the good relationship between husband and wife, to extend it further so that each couple can resolve their problems so that their family will be all right, not just for the two of them but for their children).”
