GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Defending champion Pasig City took control of the overall standings in the Batang Pinoy National Championships after a pair of golden finishes in swimming on Wednesday at the Antonio Acharon Sports Complex pool in Calumpang.
Roland Aaron Seprado powered Pasig’s charge with a dominant performance in the boys’ 14–15 100-meter backstroke, then joined Rafael Miguel Ubiadas, Ricardo Felipe Delgado, and Gabriel Medenilla to rule the 14–17 4×50-meter freestyle relay. Their efforts lifted Pasig’s medal count to 21 golds, 14 silvers, and 22 bronzes as of 7 p.m.
Manila also had a strong day in the pool, bagging four gold medals—two courtesy of Patricia Mae Santor, who continues to shine as one of the event’s breakout stars. Santor ruled the girls’ 16–17 200-meter butterfly and anchored the 14–17 4×50-meter freestyle relay alongside Jamie Aica Summer Sy, Eliana Isabel Rodriguez, and Kristine Jane Uy, bringing her personal gold tally to five. Her earlier victories came in the 50m and 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley (12–17 mixed age group).
Manila’s other triumphs included wins in the girls’ 12–13 4×50-meter freestyle relay (Christen Euane Sy, Elyzah Shayne Son, Jordan Porche Sales, and Aeesha Sharine Pesy) and the boys’ 16–17 200-meter butterfly, courtesy of Shiblon Montera. With these, Manila climbed to second place with 19 golds, 18 silvers, and 16 bronzes.
Baguio City, last year’s perennial contender, slipped to third with 18 golds, 12 silvers, and 16 bronzes. The City of Pines still shone in judo, hauling six golds from the juvenile boys’ and girls’ teams, highlighted by wins from Zack Joseph Joven (boys’ cadet 15–17 -50kg), Josh Mayuga (boys’ juvenile 12–14 -46kg), Alayne Joy Albon (girls’ juvenile 12–14 -57kg), and Jan Samuel Dino (boys’ cadet 15–17 -60kg).
Rounding out the top five were Quezon City (15-16-20) and Davao City (14-17-25), followed by Santa Rosa City (13-11-5), Zamboanga City (13-8-3), Cebu City (9-9-6), and host General Santos City (8-7-4).
