The reopening of the Pasig River Esplanade is pushed to a later date as final improvements continue at the riverfront site in Manila, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos says.

In a weekend post, the First Lady says the esplanade is nearing completion and is expected to be fully ready in about 10 days, placing the target date near the end of January.

She explains that the delay is meant to ensure that recent upgrades are completed properly, stressing that quality takes priority over speed.

During a site inspection, Marcos shares images showing ongoing repainting of walkways and finishing work on newly built wooden kiosks intended for vendors.

The ceremonial turnover of the kiosks, which President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was set to lead, is postponed as construction work remains unfinished.

The Intramuros Administration earlier closed the bazaar section of the esplanade in Plaza Mexico to allow uninterrupted site enhancements starting January 5.

The project is part of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) urban renewal program, now in its fourth phase, which recently opened a 530-meter riverwalk linking the Manila Central Post Office to Arroceros Forest Park.
