DAGUPAN CITY – The municipal government of Rosales in Pangasinan is targeting to become an agricultural trade hub for Benguet, Nueva Viscaya, and Western Pangasinan.

Mayor William Cezar, in a phone interview Saturday, said there were already talks regarding the project earlier this year with officials of some localities in Benguet and Nueva Viscaya.

“Their vegetable products will be brought down to Rosales. The fish from the western part of Pangasinan will be brought here also, and we will have a market for them,” he said.

He said there will be an exchange of products in the town catering to both provinces and some of the localities in Pangasinan.

Cezar said part of this project is the improvement of road networks, specifically those leading to the Farmers’ Market or Bagsakan.

“I think one of our programs in Rosales is focusing on how to help our local farmers. I admit that the economy fuel of Rosales is really 50-50. Fifty is on the agriculture part, 50 is on the industrial, commercial,” he said.

He added that this is also in support of the national government’s food security program.

“We need to support that because food security is really important for us here in the Philippines. It will be beneficial for us,” Cezar said.

Rosales is a junction town bordering the towns of Villasis to the north, the province of Nueva Ecija to the south, Balungao, Pangasinan to the east, and Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan and Tarlac province to the west.

It is part of the sixth congressional district with a total land area of 6,639 hectares and a population of 66,711 people, according to the 2020 census. (PNA)
