All 48 local government units in Pangasinan suspended classes Monday as Tropical Depression Luis and the enhanced southwest monsoon brought heavy rain and raised safety concerns across the province.
The provincial government said local officials ordered the suspensions under Executive Order No. 66, which authorizes mayors to act based on actual weather conditions and risks in their jurisdictions.
The province’s 44 municipalities and four cities halted in-person classes in public and private schools.
Most LGUs suspended classes at all levels, while Manaoag limited its order to preschool through senior high school.
Lingayen also suspended work in government offices, except those providing health, emergency, frontline and other essential services.
The Ilocos Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council placed its Emergency Operations Center under blue alert beginning Monday.
The Office of Civil Defense said the alert required heightened monitoring, closer coordination and the standby deployment of personnel and equipment.
Pagasa forecast 100 to 200 millimeters of rain over Pangasinan, La Union, Zambales and Bataan due to the combined effects of Luis and the southwest monsoon.
