The Philippine National Police (PNP) confiscated about Php 6.99 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes in separate operations in Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur from August 1 to 2.
Police arrested two suspects and recovered 122 master cases of cigarettes during the operations.
Authorities also seized a vehicle and an unmarked motorized fishing boat allegedly used to transport the contraband.
The suspects and confiscated items remained in police custody while authorities prepared the appropriate charges.
The PNP said the seizures formed part of its continuing campaign against smuggling and other forms of illegal trade.
It added that the illicit cigarette trade undermined legitimate businesses and deprived the government of tax revenues.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez commended the operating units for the coordinated operations.
He said the police would continue working with partner agencies to strengthen border enforcement and prevent the movement of smuggled goods.
