Palawan Group of Companies, through its digital wallet arm PalawanPay, reaffirmed its dedication to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development as the Platinum Sponsor of the Philippine Youth Basketball Championship (PYBC).
The sponsorship was highlighted during a fellowship lunch hosted by PYBC, gathering young basketball hopefuls from across the country alongside their families and coaches. The initiative underscores PalawanPay’s mission to create opportunities for the next generation of Filipino athletes—helping them hone their skills, showcase their talent, and live out the values of sportsmanship.
Palawan Group Chief Financial Officer and avid basketball fan Lilian Castro-Selda said the partnership reflects the company’s broader vision to uplift Filipino communities:
“At Palawan Group, we have always believed in grassroots development. Whether in financial services, education, or sports, our mission is to empower Filipinos to build a brighter future. Partnering with PYBC is not just a commitment but also a privilege. It is an honor to help young athletes dream, learn, and grow—both on and off the court. Basketball is more than just a game; it instills values such as discipline, teamwork, resilience, grit, and respect. These are the same values we uphold at Palawan Group, and we are proud to support the youth in strengthening them through sports.”

Miguel Mangabat, PalawanPay Marketing Manager, expressed the Palawan Group’s support for PYBC and its mission to empower young athletes.
The program formally opened with PYBC Commissioner and PBA Hall of Famer Benjie Paras, who also serves as a Palawan Group ambassador. Paras inspired the players, saying:
“You’re fortunate to have this opportunity to be scouted by coaches and supported by generous sponsors. But remember—commitment is key. That means hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and above all, love for the game.”
Adding to the inspiration were basketball icons Ronnie Magsanoc, who shared his journey alongside Paras from San Beda to the PBA, as well as PBA MotoClub members Rico Maierhofer and JJ Helterbrand, who encouraged the young players with their presence and stories. Tournament Director Carl Villanueva and Deputy Commissioner Paulo Layug also recognized key partners and sponsors with certificates of appreciation for their role in making the championship possible.

Young talents, coaches, sponsors, and PYBC staff come together for a memorable group photo celebrating basketball, mentorship, and community support.
Through this collaboration, PalawanPay aims to strengthen grassroots basketball programs and ensure that young players have access to pathways for growth. Building on Palawan Group’s long-standing advocacy for community development, the company believes that investing in sports does not only create champions on the court, but also empowers Filipino youth to become champions in life.
