Malacañang announced Monday that an independent commission will be formed to investigate alleged irregularities in multibillion-peso flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said members of the commission will undergo strict screening to ensure impartiality and credibility, stressing that they must be “truly independent” and free from political influence.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. confirmed that an executive order is being finalized to establish the body, which will serve as the administration’s “investigative arm” against corruption in DPWH. The commission will review documents and complaints and recommend whether cases should be filed before the Ombudsman or the DOJ.
Marcos added that the commission will likely include forensic investigators, prosecutors, lawyers, and retired justices to ensure integrity in the investigation.
The move follows the resignation of former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who stepped down under the principle of command responsibility amid the anomalies. Newly appointed DPWH chief Vince Dizon also announced plans to seek the courtesy resignation of all department officials as part of a broader cleanup effort.
