Palace: PH officials in Canada coordinating with Vancouver attack victims

The Palace on Monday announced that the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver is in coordination with the some of the victims of the car-ramming attack.

At least 11 people were killed and several more injured when a 30-year-old driver allegedly rammed his vehicle intentionally into a crowd gathered for the Lapu-Lapu Festival over the weekend.

“Ang consulate natin ay nakapag-establish ng komunikasyon sa ilang mga biktimang nasugatan,” Palace Press Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro told Palace reporters.

“Minadali po agad na matulungan,” she said.

However, it was not clarified how much of those 11 victims were Filipinos.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier stated that he has “given specific instructions to our diplomats and staff in Vancouver to extend assistance to the victims and coordinate with Canadian authorities properly.”

He also called on “everyone concerned to keep calm but remain vigilant.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Consulate General assured that they “stand ready to extend the appropriate assistance to the bereaved families and will cooperate with Canadian authorities to ensure that adequate support will be provided to our Filipino community.”
