Malacañang on Wednesday highlighted First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos’ participation in rice distribution and other assistance programs for members of the transport sector.
During the Sept. 30 Palace briefing, Press Officer Claire Castro said the distribution of rice to drivers and other transport workers was not a one-time activity, noting that the First Lady has also participated in similar distributions in local government units.
“Alam naman po natin na yung pagbibigay at pamamahagi ng bigas lalong-lalo na sa mga miyembro ng transport sector ay hindi naman kahapon lang ginawa,” Castro said.
“Pati sa ibang mga local government units ay nakikita po natin ang First Lady Liza Marcos na siya ang namamahagi ng mga bigas,” she added.
The Palace has previously cited the First Lady’s participation in assistance initiatives, including rice distributions and programs for commuters. Earlier this month, she joined the relaunch of the Metro Manila Love Bus, which provides free rides using electric buses.
Castro’s remarks came as transport groups continued raising concerns over issues affecting drivers and operators, including fuel costs and transport regulations. On Wednesday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board held a dialogue with members of MANIBELA to discuss documentation, registration and other concerns.
