Palace confirms forming special committee to investigate Isabela Bridge collapse

The Palace on Wednesday confirmed the creation of a special committee to probe the collapse of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Isabela.

Palace press officer undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro confirmed the information, which came from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Manuel Bonoan, during a press briefing.

On February 27, a part of the bridge collapsed, leaving six people injured.

It was suspected that the bridge collapsed due to the truck’s heavyweight, as the bridge could only carry up to 44 tons, and the truck weighed 100 tons.

However, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the bridge’s collapse was due to a “design problem.”

Meanwhile, the engineer denied that the design was to blame as it adhered to the Bridge Code of the Philippines.

The Senate’s blue ribbon committee has launched a motu proprio probe into the collapse. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is the chairman of the subcommittee.
