Malacañang said former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson’s proposal for a mass protest aimed at removing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. could amount to incitement to sedition.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Tuesday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has the authority to investigate the matter and determine whether legal action is warranted.
She noted that the key issue is whether Singson’s statements actually persuaded anyone to act against the President.
Castro also rejected Singson’s invitation for Marcos to debate corruption, saying the President is fully occupied with official duties, including reviewing the national budget.
She added that meaningful discussions on corruption should have taken place earlier, during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, when alleged issues first arose.
Singson urged religious and youth groups to participate in a “one time, big time” protest against government corruption and said he would coordinate with opposition figures to mobilize support.
He stressed that the youth should lead the movement, highlighting their stake in the nation’s future and encouraging them to act without fear.
