Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s support for a new defense agreement involving Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
Sharif expressed appreciation for Trump’s remarks on the pact, which the three countries signed in Mecca on August 7.
The Pakistani leader said the agreement was intended to strengthen the security of the participating countries while contributing to stability across the wider region.
He also stressed the importance of lasting peace in creating conditions for economic growth and improved living standards among their populations.
Trump had welcomed the agreement in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, describing its signing as an important initial step toward closer defense cooperation.
The US president also congratulated the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan for reaching the agreement.
Trump said the pact reflected greater cooperation among countries in the region and could strengthen their ability to address their own security needs.
The agreement adds a new dimension to defense ties among Ankara, Islamabad and Riyadh as the three governments seek closer security coordination amid continuing geopolitical tensions in the region.
