The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is opening its facilities to the public this week with free planetarium shows and telescope-viewing sessions in line with the 2026 National Astronomy Week (NAW).
The annual observance began on Feb. 15 and will run until Feb. 21, highlighting astronomy awareness and public engagement in space science.
From Feb. 16 to 20, Pagasa is holding complimentary planetarium presentations at its Science Garden Planetarium in Quezon City, as well as its Visayas Planetarium in Mactan, Cebu, and Mindanao Planetarium in Molugan, El Salvador, Misamis Oriental.
The state weather bureau said the shows aim to make astronomy more accessible to students, families, and space enthusiasts.
Free telescope-viewing activities are also scheduled during the same period at the Pagasa Astronomical Observatory in UP Diliman, Quezon City, and at the Mindanao Planetarium in Misamis Oriental.
Through these sessions, visitors will have the opportunity to observe celestial objects under guided supervision of Pagasa personnel.
Additional astronomy-related programs and outreach activities are likewise being conducted in various parts of the country in partnership with astronomy groups and institutions.
Pagasa said the weeklong celebration seeks to promote public interest in astronomy and encourage greater appreciation of science and space exploration.
