A 27-year-old man was arrested following a multi-vehicle collision along Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City early Monday, police said.
The suspect, a resident of Sampaloc, Manila identified only as “Eugene,” was apprehended by personnel of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit shortly after the incident at around 5:10 a.m.
Initial investigation showed that the man was driving a Nissan Navara from St. Delgado Street toward Kamuning Road when he suddenly swerved to the left and struck several parked vehicles.
The crash triggered a chain collision that damaged multiple unattended vehicles, including a Honda CR-V, a Geely Okavango, a Honda City, and a Nissan Patrol parked near a convenience store along the avenue.
Responding officers found indications that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Police said the suspect failed both field sobriety and breathalyzer tests, with his blood alcohol content recorded well above the legal threshold.
Further inspection of the vehicle also revealed unauthorized sirens and blinking lights installed, in violation of Presidential Decree No. 96.
Authorities filed complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, illegal use of signaling devices, and violation of Republic Act No. 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
