SAN JOSE, Antique – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Philippine Army (PA) launched their first joint interoperability exercise in the Visayas, bringing together around 200 military personnel in Bugasong, Antique, to strengthen operational coordination and defense capabilities.

Philippine Army Major General Joey Escanillas said the exercise aimed to improve cooperation between the two military branches, particularly in utilizing air assets, enhancing defense strategies, and conducting coordinated operations during armed conflicts and potential security threats.

The training was conducted in Barangays Ilaures, Camangahan, and Igbalangao in Bugasong and was scheduled to run until October 23, 2026.

Escanillas said the activity was aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through joint military exercises and improved operational readiness.

He emphasized that advancements in military equipment and technology have made training activities more efficient and effective.

Antique was selected as the training location because of its strategic position along the country’s western seaboard, making it suitable for joint air and ground operations.

The exercise included live-fire drills and other military training activities designed to enhance coordination and preparedness among participating troops.

To ensure public safety, the PAF and PA coordinated with the municipal government of Bugasong, led by Mayor Victor Condez, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Sheillah Grace Vicente, Wing Commander of Tactical Operations Wing Central, led the participating Philippine Air Force personnel.

Antique Governor Paolo Javier expressed appreciation to the AFP for choosing the province as the venue for the exercise, recognizing its contribution to strengthening military preparedness.

The activity also received support from provincial and municipal officials, highlighting cooperation between the military and local government units in ensuring the safe conduct of defense training operations.
