Police seized more than Php 5.4 million worth of suspected shabu in a series of operations across Western Visayas within 24 hours, alongside firearms and equipment allegedly used in illegal fishing.
The Police Regional Office 6 said its anti-drug operations from 6 a.m. Sunday to 5:59 a.m. Monday yielded 800.03 grams of suspected shabu valued at approximately Php 5.44 million.
The biggest haul came from La Paz district in Iloilo City shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, where two suspects were arrested and 710 grams of suspected shabu worth Php 4.828 million were recovered.
In Oton, Iloilo, police arrested another suspect classified as a high-value individual during a separate buy-bust operation. Authorities seized around 55 grams of suspected shabu valued at Php 374,000.
Police also arrested 12 people in operations against illegal fishing and confiscated fishing equipment estimated to be worth Php 423,170.
PRO-6 reported that 12 firearms were surrendered during its campaign against loose firearms and explosives, while five explosive-related items were recovered.
In separate operations from Aug. 29 to Aug. 30, authorities confiscated about Php 1.2 million worth of illegal fishing equipment and Php 935,000 worth of allegedly smuggled goods.
During the same period, one firearm was confiscated and 62 others were voluntarily surrendered. Eleven additional firearms were recovered or surrendered during 72 operations.
PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño credited police personnel involved in the operations and said law enforcement activities would continue across the region.
