A suspected cocaine stash worth over Php 34.5 million unexpectedly surfaced in a remote Quezon town after a resident voluntarily handed it over to police, triggering a deeper probe into its origin.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said five tape-sealed plastic bags containing a white crystalline substance were turned over at the Patnanungan Municipal Police Station on May 16, 2026.

A 52-year-old man from Barangay Busdak surrendered the items, prompting authorities to secure the haul and initiate standard evidence handling procedures.

Initial estimates placed the weight of the seized substance at 6,514.7 grams, with a standard drug price reaching Php 34,528,387, according to police data.

The recovered items were set for laboratory examination by the Quezon Provincial Forensic Unit to verify their chemical composition and confirm whether these were indeed cocaine.

Authorities said the unexpected turnover raised questions on how the illegal drugs reached the possession of the individual, with investigators now tracing possible supply routes and networks.

The Philippine National Police said the case underscored ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at tightening its anti-illegal drug campaign and strengthening case buildup efforts.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities are determined to piece together the full story behind the incident, including identifying those responsible and tracking where the drugs originated.
