Police intercepted a truck carrying more than 4,000 board feet of sawn narra lumber worth about Php 2.04 million at a checkpoint in Diadi town, authorities said.

The vehicle was stopped on Sept. 9 in Barangay Nagsabaran by personnel of the Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office’s 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Police said the Isuzu Forward truck was loaded with about 4,079 board feet of narra lumber, but the driver failed to present documents authorizing its transport.

The driver and his helper allegedly left the vehicle after it was intercepted, prompting officers to conduct follow-up operations to locate them.

The truck and the lumber were turned over to the Diadi Municipal Police Station for documentation and coordination with the concerned authorities.

Under Philippine forestry rules, the transport of timber and other forest products generally requires permits or supporting documents from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, while narra is among the country’s protected premium hardwood species.

PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez said police personnel would continue acting on suspected violations involving the movement of forest products and coordinate with the proper agencies for investigation and disposition.

Authorities said the case remained under investigation, including the source of the lumber and possible liability of those involved in its transport.
