Actor Oyo Boy Sotto revealed in a recent House of D vlog that he once struggled with drug use but has since turned his life around through faith.
“Sa experience ko, corrupt din ako dati, di ba? I was corrupted–– nagsisinungaling ako, nambabae, nag dru-drugs, umiinom, nag sisigarilyo… Pero, when I met Jesus–– nung nagkaroon ako ng relasyon sa kanya–– doon naayos yung buhay ko,” he shared.
Oyo recalled losing most of his money to his habits, leaving him with only ₱2,000 in his bank account. At the time, he wasn’t married and even lived with his father, Vic Sotto.
“The time I was doing drugs, naubos na yung pera ko, naubos na yung savings ko. Humiram na ako nun kay ate ng kotse because I sold all my cars. Binenta ko lahat ng sasakyan ko and si daddy that time had two cars. Ako, I had five cars,” he said.
He admitted that hitting rock bottom was necessary for him to realize he needed change. “Parang, kailangan kong madapa ng sobra-sobra. Kailangan kong humampas yung mukha ko sa putik bago ko marealize na hindi ko pala kaya ‘to. Tapos wala akong trabaho and that was only for two years,” he added.
Oyo emphasized that true repentance was key to transforming his life. “When you repent, alam mo na mali yung ginawa mo eh–– corrupted ka. Mag repent ka and true repentance brings change para sa akin. If you’re just gonna say sorry, uulitin mo lang yun eh. Ang ginagamot mo lang yung bunga. Wag, gamutin mo yung ugat–– yung root,” he explained.
“Nung sinabi ko na di ko pala kaya to mag-isa, hindi talaga. Wala talaga,” he concluded, reflecting on the pivotal role faith played in his recovery.
