The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday that 80,595 families, or 366,360 individuals, were affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, and nearby provinces.
These families are spread across 106 barangays in Central Visayas. Of the total, 365 families remain in eight evacuation centers, while 15,092 families are receiving aid outside evacuation sites.
The NDRRMC also said the reported number of fatalities decreased from 72 to 68 deaths, all in Central Visayas, following further validation.
“Please take note that the numbers may increase or decrease as validation of the MDM (Management of the Dead and Missing Persons) led by the DILG is ongoing,” Office of Civil Defense deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano explained.
The agency is also validating reports of 559 injured persons.
Meanwhile, 5,013 houses were damaged, with 4,355 partially damaged and 658 totally destroyed.
