Over 2.2 million passengers traveled via ports during Holy Week — PPA

More than 2.2 million Filipinos traveled through seaports during Holy Week, a 37.14% increase from the 1.67 million recorded in 2024, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported Monday.

According to the PPA, the busiest ports were in Batangas, Panay/Guimaras, Mindoro, Negros Oriental/Siquijor, and Bohol.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago attributed the spike to the overlap of Holy Week and students’ summer break, as well as strong promotion of local tourism.

The agency also announced plans to launch an Electronic Terminal Management System (ETMS) within the year, which will allow passengers to get tickets digitally.

“Within the next few months basta within this year, maro-rollout na ‘yan. Kapag may e-ticketing na tayo, wala nang masyadong pila,” said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
