More than 18,000 students from the Universidad de Manila (UdM) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) will receive their monthly allowances next week, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced Thursday.
According to Lacuna, 10,115 UdM students and 8,200 PLM students will each receive PHP2,000, covering the months of March and April. The payout is scheduled from May 28 to 31.
“This small help is a testament to our full support for our students to help them graduate from college,” she said.
UdM President Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria said students must bring a ballpen, original and photocopy of their UdM-issued RFID with three specimen signatures, a photocopy of their GO Manila ID, and a printed copy of their student portal showing midterm grades for the second semester of AY 2024–2025. The payout procedure and schedule, done by personal handout on a per-college basis, are posted on official social media pages.
Meanwhile, PLM students will receive their allowances through their debit card accounts.
The monthly PHP1,000 allowance is part of Manila’s social amelioration program, passed during Lacuna’s time as city council presiding officer. UdM and PLM are both operated by the local government.
“These payouts to students are regular occurrences. These allowances are the beneficiaries’ share of the taxes collected and revenues generated by the city,” Lacuna added.
She noted that while the amount may not be large, it helps ease the regular expenses of students. Other beneficiaries of the city’s financial assistance program include senior citizens, solo parents, and persons with disabilities.
