SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan – More than 18,000 low-income families in this city are receiving rice assistance under the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang (BBM) Rice Subsidy Program.

Mayor Julier Resuello said during his State of the City Address on Friday that 18,240 families would receive a total of 60 kilograms of rice each, distributed in four tranches until December.

The city government expects to distribute more than one million kilograms of rice to qualified beneficiaries before the end of the year.

“A grand total of more than one million kilos of rice will be distributed this year for all the recipients,” Resuello said.

He said the City Social Welfare Office had established a scheduled distribution system to ensure the orderly release of rice allocations.

The local government purchases rice from farmers and traders within the city, providing additional market opportunities for local agricultural producers.

Resuello said the initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist low-income households while supporting the livelihood of farmers and rice traders.

The mayor also expressed appreciation to the national government for implementing the subsidy program, which aims to ease food expenses for financially disadvantaged families.
