The Department of Education (DepEd) has promoted 16,025 public school teachers under the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system implemented during the Marcos administration.
DepEd said an additional 41,183 teachers have been processed and endorsed to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the next batch of promotions.
The ECP allows teachers to move up salary grades without leaving classroom teaching, with a maximum of three salary-grade increases.
Teacher Claire Eusebio of Magsaysay Elementary School in the Tabuk City Division was reclassified from Teacher III to Teacher VI under the program.
“This reclassification is more than a promotion. It is a validation of decades spent teaching, mentoring, and believing in learners even when I feared retiring as a Teacher III after 21 years of service,” Eusebio said.
DepEd reported that all regions have processed appointments under the new career structure.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the reforms aim to address long-standing delays in teacher promotions.
“Maraming guro ang matagal nang handang umangat. Ang responsibilidad namin ay alisin ang sagabal at tiyaking gumagalaw ang sistema para sa kanila,” Angara said.
DepEd records show that 18,007 of the 41,183 teachers in the pipeline are targeted for a maximum three-salary-grade increase, while others will receive one- or two-grade adjustments.
DepEd said it will continue to clear regional backlogs and expand training programs through the National Educators Academy of the Philippines to support the implementation of the ECP system.
