More than 100,000 families across Calabarzon were affected by heavy monsoon rains and recent weather disturbances, including Maymay, the Department of Social Welfare and Development reported.
In its latest regional assessment, the DSWD placed the number of affected households at 100,020, a sharp increase from the earlier tally of 25,322.
The affected population was recorded in 554 barangays across Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon as flooding and persistent rains disrupted communities throughout the region.
As of Monday night, Aug. 10, 9,511 families were staying in 282 evacuation centers operating in 50 cities and municipalities.
Rizal accounted for more than 5,000 displaced families, making it the province with the largest number of evacuees amid the widespread flooding.
The DSWD said 12,877 families had been displaced overall, including those staying outside evacuation centers with relatives or friends.
Rizal had 86 evacuation centers in operation, while Batangas had 75, Cavite 73, Laguna 32 and Quezon 16.
The agency had provided about Php 2.56 million in augmentation assistance to affected communities, including 3,453 family food packs distributed across 13 localities.
