With the nationwide prohibition of electric tricycles and bicycles on major road having taken effect last week on January 1 the current year, Parañaque City mayor Edwin Olivarez is reminding the public that several major roads in the city are among those covered by the ban.
The e-bike and e-trike ban is in line with the directive from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) that states these kind of vehicles are prohibited from traveling on or through national roads and main thoroughfares.
The ban was triggered by several complaints that have reached the Department of Transportation (DoTr) regarding e-trikes and e-bikes as among the major cause of traffic congestion as many of their drivers are minors who do not have formal education or are unfamiliar with traffic rules and regulations.
Added to this, there have been several reports and surveys indicating an escalation in the number of road accidents and mishaps involving e-bikes and e-trikes. Another problem also pointed out is the difficulty of Going after those involved in traffic incidents due to the lack of proper documentation.
In view of these arguments, Mayor Olivarez advised Parañaqueños and the public to abide with the ban as this is part of the public safety measures being implemented for the welfare of the citizenry.
Parañaque roads where e-trikes and e-bikes are banned are Dr. A. Santos Avenue, Quirino Avenue, NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Road, Roxas Boulevard, West Service Road, East Service Road and Airport Road.
