The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has activated its regional amateur and civic radio action groups to support government emergency communication and public assistance operations as the country braces for the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan.
In a statement, the NTC said the move is part of the government’s proactive disaster preparedness efforts to help safeguard lives and communities from the impending threat posed by Uwan.
“The NTC underscores the vital role of radio communications in disaster preparedness and response and commends the continuous volunteerism of the country’s amateur radio and civic communication groups in times of national emergencies,” it said.
The agency added that its regional offices “have already taken proactive measures” by coordinating with their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) to ensure clear lines of communication and effective coordination during emergencies.
The NTC also said emergency frequencies across UHF, VHF, and HF bands are being monitored to support real-time information exchange among responders and volunteer radio groups.
Regional teams have ensured that all communication equipment and facilities remain fully operational, with sufficient power and backup systems in case of outages.
“All radio operators have been reminded to prioritize emergency traffic and strictly adhere to standard communication protocols to maintain order and efficiency in radio traffic during the typhoon’s passage,” the NTC added.
