A high-stakes manhunt came to a dramatic end Saturday as authorities captured Chinese fugitive Wang Dan Yu—also known by his alias “Bao Long”—in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, as he allegedly tried to slip back into the Philippines through the country’s southern backdoor.
PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed Wang’s arrest, calling it a “major breakthrough” in a string of high-profile crimes linked to the foreign national.
Wang is facing multiple grave charges, including murder, carnapping, and kidnapping for ransom. He’s also believed to be behind the 2024 restaurant shooting in Makati that shocked the public and drew national media attention.
Adding to his criminal profile, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier named Wang as the prime suspect in the abduction of a 14-year-old student in Taguig last February—an incident that sparked outrage and heightened fears over rising foreign-influenced crimes.
“This arrest is a strong message that the Philippines is not a safe haven for fugitives,” Gen. Torre said. “We will find them—wherever they try to hide.”
Wang is now in PNP custody and will face legal proceedings as authorities coordinate with immigration and Chinese officials for the next steps.
