Shocked by the news of being picked by Creamline, Nica Celis of the University of the Philippines admitted that it never crossed her mind that she would be joining the 10-time PVL champion squad. However, the excitement was palpable for Celis as she prepares to team up with stars like Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and fellow UP alum Tots Carlos.
“Honestly, I was really blank while we were waiting. When I heard my name, it felt unreal because it was never in my mind that I would go to their team,” Celis shared with reporters at the PVL Rookie Draft 2025, held on Sunday at Novotel Manila in Quezon City. She was Creamline’s last pick before the team passed on the league proceedings.
Celis expressed her honor in joining the Valdez-captained squad. “It’s still such an honor to be there, and I was a bit shaky. As you can see, I’m still shaking. So, I’m really happy,” the UP middle blocker said.
She recognizes the opportunity to learn from the dynastic Cool Smashers. “It’s exciting because I’m going to be surrounded by really great players, and I know that I’ll pick up a lot of things from them and learn a lot from them, so I see this as an opportunity to grow,” Celis explained.
“Just the thought of it is really thrilling to the point that I’m ready to start training right now. I just don’t know how to explain this feeling that I have right now, but overall, it’s just pure bliss,” she added.
As Celis embarks on this new chapter in her volleyball career, she looks forward to the growth and experiences that await her with the Creamline Cool Smashers.
