The National Food Authority (NFA) has called on farmers in the Bicol Region to sell their palay to the government following an increase in procurement prices.
Officials said the adjusted buying rates took effect April 13 as part of efforts to boost buffer stocks for subsidized rice distribution and disaster response.
New prices varied across provinces, with higher rates offered compared to the previous level set last week to remain competitive with private traders.
NFA Bicol said the price adjustment aimed to help farmers cope with rising production costs, including fuel, fertilizer and labor.
The agency also reported maintaining a substantial stockpile of palay, with a large portion stored in Camarines Sur.
Officials said current inventory levels are sufficient to support both emergency needs and the government’s rice subsidy program.
Under the subsidized scheme, rice is sold at Php 20 per kilogram to identified beneficiaries, including vulnerable sectors and selected workers.
The NFA said it continues to coordinate with partner agencies and local governments to manage distribution and ensure steady supply.
