House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said the arrest of former Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co in the Czech Republic demonstrated that authorities would eventually apprehend individuals attempting to evade legal accountability.

Dy said Co’s detention marked progress in efforts to pursue those allegedly involved in infrastructure corruption cases, calling it a reaffirmation of the government’s drive against wrongdoing.

He said the development sent a strong signal that no one was exempt from the law, particularly those handling public funds.

The House leadership, he added, would continue addressing public concerns while also dealing with issues arising from Co’s arrest and its broader implications.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier confirmed that Co had been taken into custody in Prague after reportedly entering the Czech Republic without proper travel documents.

Authorities said Co remained under Czech custody as coordination between Philippine and foreign officials continued regarding his status.

Co had left the country in 2025 and was later linked to allegations involving budget insertions and infrastructure anomalies, which prompted legislative and legal actions against him.

He later released statements and videos accusing top government officials of irregularities in the national budget process, claims that have been disputed by various analysts and former officials.
