Actress and entrepreneur Neri Naig, who faces charges of syndicated estafa and violations of the Securities Regulation Code, has been taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, authorities said.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera confirmed Naig’s transfer to the hospital at around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29.
“Lumabas ang court order na dalhin siya sa ospital not more than five days. Ito ay ipinagutos ng judge ng RTC 112 kung saan naka file ang kanyang kaso,” Bustinera said in an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo.
He added that Naig had no health issues when she was booked into jail.
“Standard procedure ang health evaluation during the intake process in all BJMP facilities and there was no noted health issues during her intake. The recent hospitalization was the request of her lawyer,” Bustinera said in a related media interview.
The actress, arrested on November 23 at a Pasay City mall, faces 14 counts of Securities Regulation Code violations. Bail was set at P126,000 for each count. However, the syndicated estafa charge is non-bailable, and she remains in custody at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory.
Her arraignment for the Securities Regulation Code charges has been rescheduled for January 9, 2025, after her legal team filed a motion to quash.
Naig’s husband, Chito Miranda of rock band Parokya ni Edgar, defended her on social media, saying she was only an endorser for Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Ventures, the company accused of misleading the public into investing in its franchise with promises of guaranteed returns.
