Nearly 350,000 Maynilad customers to experience water interruptions over weekend

A 2.2-meter diameter water pipeline of Maynilad Water Services burst in Tondo, Manila on Friday, resulting to water service interruptions on Saturday as the company carries out urgent repairs.

According to Maynilad, the pipeline — located along Nicolas Zamora Street — was accidentally damaged by a third-party contractor working on the construction of the New Pritil Market.

“Naka-receive kami ng report mula sa city engineer kahapon na may malakas na unusual na strong flow sa construction ng New Pritil Public Market,” Maynilad water supply operations officer Engr. Ian Abiera said.

“Mukhang natamaan ng 3rd party contractor na nagko-construct ng New Pritil Market ‘yung 2.2-meter diameter primary trunkline,” he added.

Maynilad announced that the water supply in several areas across Metro Manila and Cavite will be temporarily disrupted starting Saturday afternoon due to ongoing emergency repairs. Affected locations include parts of Manila, Pasay City, Parañaque City, and Las Piñas City in the capital region, as well as Bacoor City, Cavite City, Imus City, Kawit, Rosario and Noveleta in Cavite province.

The scheduled water interruption will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, and is expected to last until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Maynilad advised residents in the affected areas to store enough water in advance and prepare for temporary inconvenience while repair work is being completed.

“Nasa 352,000 customers ang inaasahang maaapektuhan,” Abiera said.

Maynilad has urged affected customers to store sufficient water ahead of the scheduled service interruption to cover their essential needs. To help mitigate the impact, the company said it will deploy mobile water tankers to provide clean water in areas where necessary.

Once water service is restored, customers may initially notice discoloration in the water. Maynilad advised residents to let the water run until it clears. The initial flow, the company noted, can be safely used for non-potable purposes such as flushing toilets.

Repair crews are currently working around the clock to complete the necessary restoration works as quickly as possible. Maynilad apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for the public’s understanding while the emergency repairs are underway.
