More than 12,400 police officers, support personnel, and volunteers will be deployed in Metro Manila for the Independence Day celebration, the Philippine National Police said Wednesday.
The PNP said the security contingent would include 11,675 police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office, 143 personnel from partner units, and 596 force multipliers.
Authorities said security coverage would focus on major commemoration sites, including Rizal Park, the Parada ng Kalayaan route, the Andres Bonifacio Monument, the Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, and the Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine.
Police personnel would also be assigned near Malacañang Palace and the United States Embassy as part of the security preparations for the June 12 activities.
The deployment came even after the PNP earlier said it had not received verified intelligence on reports that groups allied with the Duterte family were allegedly planning to storm Malacañang during the Independence Day celebration.
Security concerns had also been raised at the Senate, prompting the chamber to enforce heightened security measures around its compound.
The NCRPO said it remained on heightened situational awareness while ensuring that security measures would not unduly disrupt commuters and the public.
PNP chief Jose Nartatez said police units were ready to secure the 128th Independence Day celebration and had been instructed to remain alert, responsive, and prepared to assist the public.
