NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed the agency’s readiness to appear before the House Committee on Justice, where lawmakers are set to examine allegations that Duterte made threats against Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Rather than a routine appearance, the bureau’s testimony is expected to offer a detailed reconstruction of its investigation—one that extends beyond public statements and into the digital trail left behind. According to Matibag, the NBI reviewed not only Duterte’s remarks but also related social media content, video recordings, and other digital materials, all of which have been authenticated for submission.
What makes the bureau’s participation especially consequential is its earlier decision to escalate the matter. The NBI has already filed a complaint before the National Prosecution Service under the Department of Justice, citing potential violations of the Revised Penal Code.
