National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag has acknowledged the possibility of an armed confrontation during an operation to arrest Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, citing concerns over firearms that have yet to be surrendered and individuals who might assist the lawmaker.

Matibag explained that any law enforcement operation carries the risk of an encounter, particularly when the person being arrested may still have access to weapons.

He also raised the possibility that individuals close to dela Rosa could intervene during an arrest operation, potentially complicating efforts by authorities.

Despite these concerns, Matibag emphasized that the NBI intends to carry out any arrest in a manner that minimizes the risk of violence.

The bureau’s priority, he said, is to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel, the senator and the public should an arrest operation take place.

Matibag’s remarks underscore the security considerations surrounding a possible operation involving dela Rosa.

However, the NBI director’s assessment of a potential confrontation does not establish that the senator or his associates intend to resist authorities.

No specific timetable or operational details for a possible arrest were provided.
