NBA Finals Game 7 showdown: Pacers aim for historic upset, bettors eye value in star assists

As the 2025 NBA Finals reach a thrilling climax, the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder are set to face off in a decisive Game 7 that few saw coming. What began as a seemingly lopsided series has now turned into a historic showdown — and one that’s rewriting expectations in both sports betting and NBA lore.

Entering the Finals as massive +550 underdogs, the Pacers were given little chance against a Thunder team priced at -800. But Indiana has refused to follow the script. After routing Oklahoma City 108-91 in Game 6 — their 10th playoff win as an underdog — the Pacers are now just one victory away from completing one of the most improbable title runs in NBA history.

Game 7 heads back to Oklahoma City, where the Thunder opened as 8.5-point favorites. That line has since narrowed slightly to -7.5, signaling increased confidence in Indiana’s momentum. The total has also dropped to 215.5 — the lowest over/under of the series — suggesting oddsmakers expect a slower-paced, high-pressure affair.

Prop market spotlight: Stars poised to deliver
Amid the drama, savvy bettors are turning their attention to the player prop market — especially for two All-Star guards in the spotlight: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Haliburton.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Opportunity in the assists market
Despite recent struggles in the assist column, there’s optimism around SGA heading into Game 7. Sports betting analyst Jon Metler notes that SGA’s assist line has dipped to an unusually low 5.5, largely due to misleading box scores.

“In Game 4, he had zero assists but eight potential ones. Game 6? Same story — only two assists, but again, eight potential,” said Metler. “He wasn’t seeing fewer chances — his teammates just didn’t convert. Now, back at home, in a win-or-go-home situation, SGA’s usage will be through the roof.”

That’s why Metler is backing the alternate line of over 6.5 assists at +132, believing the number should actually be closer to -115. The Thunder’s role players have historically shot better at home, which could be the difference in converting those would-be assists.

Tyrese Haliburton: Injury discount offers bettors rare value
On the other side, Haliburton’s assist line is generating buzz for all the right reasons. Listed at over 7.5 assists for +144, the value is too enticing for some to pass up — especially given Haliburton’s usual line hovered around 9.5 or 10.5 during the regular season.

“The number reflects concern over his calf injury and limited minutes in Game 6,” Metler explained. “But that blowout kept him off the floor — it wasn’t the injury. He looked sharp, moved well, and if he plays 35-plus minutes in Game 7, this line is just too low.”

Metler suggests this line should be closer to -120, making the Haliburton 8+ assists at +144 a strong value play for bettors expecting a full-throttle performance from the Pacers star.

More than a game
Beyond the stats and spreads, Game 7 represents more than a championship — it’s a clash of youth vs. hunger, of expectations vs. resilience. The Thunder, led by a rising superstar in SGA, have the home-court advantage and the pedigree of a team built for the long haul. The Pacers, meanwhile, are defying every expectation and riding a wave of postseason grit and belief.

No matter the outcome, Game 7 promises to deliver drama, legacy moments, and potentially, one of the biggest upsets in NBA Finals history.
