The annual Thanksgiving procession of the Black Nazarene will be held on New Year’s Eve, one of three occasions when the image is brought outside the Quiapo Church in Manila.

Alex Irasga, Quiapo Church’s technical adviser for the Jesus Nazareno Fiesta 2025, said on Monday that the procession, dubbed the “Walk of Thanksgiving,” will pass by Quiapo Church.

“This is an annual yearend event held on Dec. 31. It was done from midnight of Dec. 30th into the 31st of December. This is to thank our dear Lord for the graces of our fellow Filipinos and devotees,” he said in a telephone interview.

Aside from the New Year’s Eve procession, Irasga said that on two other occasions, the image of the black Jesus Christ is brought out of the minor basilica on Good Friday and the annual feast on Jan. 9.

Unlike during the Traslacion, the annual procession of Jesus Nazareno from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park to the minor basilica, Tuesday’s event does not include devotees or rope pulling, as the image would be carried or placed on a truck.

“There would still be Hijos de Nazareno to protect the image and to make sure that people will not climb onto the truck to touch the image,” he added.

At the same time, Irasga advised the public, especially the devotees, to wait on the streets where the procession would pass.

They estimated the procession to last for two to three hours. (PNA)
